Celebrating the Partners of the 15th ACYD

The 15th ACYD marked a significant milestone in fostering meaningful connections between emerging leaders from Australia and China. This year’s dialogue not only showcased the city of Guangzhou as a hub of trade and cultural exchange, but also allowed the delegates of the ACYD to engage in impactful conversations that shape the future of bilateral engagement.

The 15th ACYD would not have been possible without the unwavering support of our Major, Associate and Affiliate partners: The National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, King & Wood Mallesons, Tourism Australia, and Airwallex. Their contributions, including ongoing support and the provision of expert panel members and world-class venues, ensured delegates could engage in a program that inspired collaboration and strengthened professional networks across borders.

Announcing the 30 Delegates of the 15th Australia-China Youth Dialogue 🌏

15th ACYD Delegates — The Australia-China Youth Dialogue

We’re thrilled to introduce the outstanding cohort selected for the 15th Australia-China Youth Dialogue (ACYD) — 30 emerging leaders from across government, business, academia, technology, media, and civil society, representing both nations’ next generation of emerging leaders.

This year’s delegates include Forbes 30 Under 30 honourees, UN-accredited researchers, diplomats, AI innovators, global correspondents, and social entrepreneurs driving impact across sectors from clean energy to culture.

From across Australia and China, they bring a wealth of experience. CEOs, diplomats academics, engineers, consultants, and creators. United by a shared commitment to deepening understanding and collaboration between the two countries.​

Together, they’ll gather in Guangzhou, 21–24 November 2025, to explore how we can Buildresilience in uncertainty through dialogue, collaboration and shared vision.

Stay tuned over the next few days as we will be spotlighting our 30 delegates and the themes shaping the future of Australia–China engagement.

This annual report provides an overview of the 14th ACYD held in Adelaide, Australia, from the 22nd to the 25th of November 2024. A cohort of 30 exceptional Australian and Chinese citizens, aged 25-40, gathered to immerse in the key issues shaping the bilateral relationship between Australia and China.

Press Release: Meet the delegates of the 14th ...

The 14th Australia-China Youth Dialogue (ACYD) will be held in Adelaide this year from Friday 22nd November to Monday 25th November 2024, bringing together 28 delegates from both countries. The four-day conference will explore the overarching theme of Planning for The Future By Learning From The Past, with each day focusing on a particular topic including: Geopolitics, Trade and Investment, Education and Tourism, Energy and Sustainability.​ This year's dialogue will include panel discussions and interactive workshops, to be led by expert speakers from Australian government and universities, Australia-based Chinese companies, to bring discussions, insights and a more sophisticated understanding of the bilateral trade and investment relationship.​

The First Ten Years - ACYD launches book to commemorate its 10th anniversary

In 2019 the Australia-China Youth Dialogue (ACYD) celebrates its tenth anniversary. Since 2010 the ACYD has developed into a community of 300 Australian and Greater Chinese young leaders from a range of backgrounds. Increasingly, members of the ACYD community are moving into positions of influence across all sectors of society in Australia and China. As they do so, it is the hope of the ACYD team that they will continue to be active, visible and constructive figures in Australia and Greater China affairs.

ACYD alumna Katrie Low’s digital career

2010 ACYD Alumna Katrie Low was featured in the CSIRO’s career spotlight series My Digital Career. Aimed at informing students and teachers about new and emerging career fields within a digital technology space, the series highlights real-life stories of individuals working in digital roles, discussing the importance of their work, and what lead them to their roles.

Katrie Low is an urban explorer and civil engineer who explores the world, aiming to make cities more sustainable and affordable. This video explores her passions for creating more liveable cities, and explores how she is working to explore urban developments, sharing information and making housing more accessible and affordable.

Katrie Low launched the Urban CurioCity project in 2017 and has travelled internationally to live and research how cities are addressing the five big urban challenges: Density, Affordability, Liveability, Sustainability and Technology. Her findings are documented on her website.

Before this, Katrie was a civil engineer for AECOM and has been involved in the delivery of major infrastructure master planning projects across Australia and Hong Kong for private and government organizations such as Sydney Airport, Hong Kong Drainage Services Department, Sydney Water and Urban Growth NSW.

Katrie is a Chartered Professional Engineer and graduated from the University of Technology Sydney with Bachelor degrees in Engineering, Arts in International Studies and a Diploma of Engineering Practice, Civil Environmental Engineering. Her studies include an independent research project at Zhejiang University and an Engineering Undergraduate Thesis at Tsinghua University.

ACYD Founder Henry Makeham selected in the 2017 class of Asia 21

The Asia 21 Young Leaders Summit, part of the larger Asia 21 Young Leaders Initiative, is the pre-eminent gathering of Asia’s most dynamic young leaders from every country and every sector in the Asia-Pacific region. The Summit brings together a core group of over 150 Asia 21 Young Leaders Fellows and delegates from Asia and the U.S, representing a wide range of fields, and all under the age of 40.

2016 Australia-China Youth Dialogue was successfully concluded in Hong Kong on Oct 31. Highlights of the program including visits to Huawei and BGI, two of China's fastest growing companies, and a series of open and frank discussions on issues pertinent to the Australia-China relations, including trade, diplomacy, security, urbanization, innovation, entrepreneurship, leadership, banking and finance. New perspectives were formed and new friendships built during the course of the Dialogue.
